Bertrand Russell (1872-1970), prix Nobel de littérature en 1950, est un mathématicien et un philosophe anglais. Il est aussi un militant politique, « penchant par tempérament vers l’anarchisme ». Homme de conviction et d’action, il perd son poste au Trinity College en 1916 et il est emprisonné pour six mois en 1918 en raison de ses idées et de son action pacifistes.
