L'A. propose une nouvelle definition du genre epique, considere comme une modalite de l'enonciation traditionnelle. A partir de 3 exemples (africains: epopee du mwet des Fang, recit bambara de la Prise de Dionkoloni, et epopee de Gilgamesh, heros sumerien), l'A. construit un modele des mecanismes cognitifs qui fondent la pertinence des epopees traditionnelles
