A Public Policy For Cinema: The Example of the Islamic Republic of Iran Agnes Devictor This article focuses on the Iranian public policy in the matter of cinema. Similar, from some procedural points of view, with other national systems of intervention, the policy of Iran regarding cinema is very peculiar, due to its Islamic ideology. The central objective of this policy is that the movies present an "ideal islamic society" in which the islamic norms - in their puritan aspects - are strictly observed. Film censorship imposes a strict control on both sides of the movie-camera. Not only the themes of the movies but also their technical dimensions (lighting, shooting, editing...) and their screening are deeply transformed by this public control which also influences a new aesthetic in Iranian cinema
