The present research study explores the intersection of critical literacy, bilingualism, and sociocultural perspectives by examining how critical literacy can be integrated into the reading of classic stories in bilingual households to create supportive family literacy environments. Through the use of multiple case studies, data were collected over three months through multiple sources including observations and interviews with mothers and children. The findings reveal that mother-child conversations in two languages, along with drawing activities, can foster a critical literacy environment in bilingual households, enabling young bilingual children to develop their own perspectives rather than simply accepting the dominant narrative of a story
