Although the undesirability of prejudice and discrimination in group relations is universally recognized and deplored, relatively slow progress has been made toward its eradication. The reason is, according to the author, that the common-sense solutions which have been tried--pleas, exhortations, appeal to facts--have been ineffective. He makes a strong appeal for scientific research as a method of discovering the causes and remedies for social ills. (Author's abstract courtesy EBSCO.)
