The Education Reform Act has provided a new backcloth for multi‐cultural initiatives everywhere. The tenuous progress already made outside the areas of ethnic minority concentration could be threatened with extinction. Hopefully local politicians and school governors will give the issue their positive consideration, but issues of equity and equality are of national importance although outside the national curriculum. If sleeping dogs are left to lie, and latent racism goes unchallenged, then children will be poorly prepared for the world they will come to inherit
