A careful reading of the sources for the ratification of Solon's laws, especially the Athenaion Politeia, shows that they swore to be governed by the new code, not to keep it unchanged for ten (or one hundred) years. This recourse to oaths shows the weakness of the Athenian state. Une lecture attentive des témoinages de la ratification des lois de Solon, surtout l'Athenaion Politeia, démontre que par leur serment les Athéniens ont accepté d'être gouvernés par le nouveau code, mais ils n'ont pas juré de le garder inaltéré pendant dix (ou cent) ans. Ce recours aux serments montre la faiblesse de l'état athénien
