This study of little kingdoms affords an opportunity to examine the premises of similar studies relying heavily on models and over-arching theories. It is shown that fixation on such models leads to neglect of the basics on which they rest, to a fuzziness of terminology, and to an unclear delimitation of the object studied, which may render their worth dubious
