  • Die Milch der Schwangeren

    Rahul Peter Das•ARTICLE•Zeitschrift der Deutschen…•2023

Triggered by a remark in Ratneśvara's commentary on Bhoja's Sarasvatīkaṇṭhābharaṇa, this contribution studies the reflections of the old Āyurvedic texts on disorders related to the milk of breastfeeding women who become pregnant again. The conclusion is that two pathogenic conditions are described, namely pārigarbhika and garbhaja phakkatva, related respectively to the quality and, probably, the quantity of the milk, but that the notions on these…

  • Hagiographien der Bhakti-Tradition

Open Access•Rahul Peter Das, Heinz Werner Wessler et al.•CHAPTER•Kindlers Literatur Lexikon (KLL)•2020

  • Veden

    Open Access•Rahul Peter Das•CHAPTER•Kindlers Literatur Lexikon (KLL)•2020

    Open Access•Rahul Peter Das•CHAPTER•Kindlers Literatur Lexikon (KLL)•2020

  • The Jungle and the Aroma of Meats

Rahul Peter Das•ARTICLE•Bulletin of the history of medicine•2000

This is the Indian reprint of a well-known work published first in Paris (in French) in 1982 and then by the University of California (in English) in 1987. Since it first appeared nearly twenty years ago and has already been extensively discussed in several reviews, it needs no new introduction. Thus it suffices to recall its subject matter--namely, the interrelations between classical Indian medical theory and ecology, and between the physical e…

  • Essays on Vaiṣṇavism in Bengal

Carol Salomon, Rahul Peter Das•ARTICLE•Journal of the American Oriental…•1999

  • Little Kingdoms and Big Theories of History

Rahul Peter Das, Georg Berkemer•ARTICLE•Journal of the American Oriental…•1997

This study of little kingdoms affords an opportunity to examine the premises of similar studies relying heavily on models and over-arching theories. It is shown that fixation on such models leads to neglect of the basics on which they rest, to a fuzziness of terminology, and to an unclear delimitation of the object studied, which may render their worth dubious

  • The hunt for foreign words in the rgveda

    Rahul Peter Das•ARTICLE•Indo-Iranian Journal•1995•Cited by: 1•References: 26

  • Cassette Culture

Rahul Peter Das, Peter Manuel•REVIEW•Journal of the American Oriental…•1995

In Cassette Culture, Peter Manuel tells how a new mass medium--the portable cassette player--caused a major upheaval in popular culture in the world's second-largest country. The advent of cassette technology in the 1980s transformed India's popular music industry from the virtual monopoly of a single multinational LP manufacturer to a free-for-all among hundreds of local cassette producers. The result was a revolution in the quantity, quality, a…

  • New Publications on Bengali Syncretistic Religions

Rahul Peter Das•ARTICLE•Journal of the American Oriental…•1994•Cited by: 1

Not only is Bengal, past and present, an area extremely rich in religious syncretism due to the interaction of various belief systems over the ages, but there is also a great wealth of relevant literature available. Unfortunately for many scholars, much of this literature is not only quite difficult to procure, but is moreover available only in Bengali. Here a selection from such literature, of recent origin and to a large extent on the Bauls, is…
