This article investigates the intricacies of an intergenerational communal event carried out in the underprivileged district of Villa El Salvador (Lima, Peru) in 2013. In this event, which celebrated the reinauguration of a soccer stadium, an orquesta típica brass band, an Afro-Brazilian batucada ensemble, and a school marching band performed simultaneously, creating a thick unified texture that was reflective of underlying, mostly unspoken conflicts inside the community. This type of multiensemble rendition is an example of the novel forms of expressive culture and performance modalities developed by Lima’s emerging neo-Andean identities, which fluidly traverse local and global ideologies while adhering to a set of long-lasting Andean ethical guidelines
