BECAUSE OF ITS POTENTIAL for disruption of war production, the 1943 steel strike was among the most important wartime disputes. It directly challenged the government's wage control policy, prompted unprecedented state intervention, and finally resulted in a restructuring of the War Labour Union organizing and economic objectives were in direct conflict with government anti-inflation policy and a federal enquiry was unable to devise a solution. Eventually, Mackenzie King who was sympathetic to the strikers' position and sensitive to CCF growth, was able to arrange a settlement. Subsequently, the settlement was repudiated by the NWLB and union-government relations were further exacerbated. Les grevistes ont defie directement la politique de controle des salaires du gouvernement, ils ont provoque une intervention sans precedent de l'Etat, et finallement, ils ont obtenu une restructuration du National War Labour Board. Les objectifs economiques du syndicat etaient en conflit direct avec la politique anti-inflationiste du gouvernement et une enquete federale fut incapable de trouver une solution au conflit. Finallement, Mackenzie King qui etait sympathique aux demandes des grevistes et sensible a la popularite du CCF, obtint un reglement de la greve. L'entente fut rejetee ulterieurement par le NWLB, ce qui aggrava les relations tendues entre la gouvernement et les syndicats
