ABSTRACT: From 2015 on, and also due to the International Decade for People of African Descent (2015-2024), promoted by the United Nations, a new generation of Portuguese Afrodescendant writers emerged, creating a new discursive and critic category in the landscape of the contemporary literary production: Afrodescendant Portuguese litera-ture. Even if I believe it may be a little too early to come to strong conclusions on this subfield of Portuguese literature, this essay aims at discussing some problems linked to the emergence of this corpus and this concept; namely: the relationship between Afrodescendant Portuguese literature and the rest of contemporary Portuguese litera-ture, and its relationship to African Literatures in Portuguese, both in terms of author-po-sitioning and disciplinary collocation of the scholars who have been active in this subfield. Furthermore, I would like to question the publishing positioning of these literary works and the epistemic and methodological turns under way in the field of Literary Studies inside and outside Portugal. KEYWORDS: Portuguese literature; African Lusophone literatures; Afropean; Afropolitan; Afrodescendant
