In recent years, scholars have shown increasing interest in studying the experiences of those persons of African descent who have been dispersed abroad, the African diaspora. Less well-known is the history of the diaspora in South America, especially the non-Spanish portions of that continent. This article reports on the educational condition and plans for the educational development of the Bush Negro, direct descendants of African slaves, living in Suriname, South America
