In the history of the Creed, the fourth century symbol of Jerusalem has an important place; but since it has been nowhere preserved in a complete form the determination of its exact text is an essential preliminary to historical study. Our knowledge of it is derived from the Catecheses of Cyril of Jerusalem, delivered A.D. 348, but the disciplina arcani, to which he refers in no uncertain terms , precluded any direct quotation. Consequently the creed has to be reconstituted from the section headings, which are the work of editors, and from the contents of the lectures themselves. The text which is usually accepted reads as follows

Art · Biblical studies · Creed · Linguistics · Literature · Section (typography) · Symbol (formal) · Theology · Archaeology and Historical Studies · Biblical Studies and Interpretation · Classics · Computer Science · Historical and Linguistic Studies · History · Philosophy
