This short article intends to approach the way in which domestic architecture is depicted in Homeric epics, by the archaic poets, by the Greek tragic playwrights and Apollonios of Rhodes, the purpose being to determine the main features of a “poetics of the home”. The point is to elicit the general characteristics to be maintained in order to depict and visualize the home in the descriptions, whether they deal with the Homeric palace of Alkinoos, that of Aiétès, or the regal palaces of Greek Tragedy. The emphasis bears more precisely on two aspects of those descriptions closely linked to the eyesight: how the home is seen and how it is presented as an instrument of vision. Another point is the question of existing evolutions between the VIII and III c. B.C. in the ways in which palace and home are given to view with the poets and if those evolutions possibly reflect changes in the way to conceive the habitat
