Studying the contexts in which the verb « dialeghesthai » appears in Homer shows that it does not involve the notion of dialogue. Not even the declarative value appears in the forefront of the intimations which the hero receives from his « thumos » in these passages but much more emphatically that of the choices that are offered to him. The verb therfore still distinctly admits of the old value of its root
