The modem institutionalization of religion Looking at the contemporary crisis of the institutionalization of religion, the present article reviews the typology presented by Troeltsch : « Church », « sect », « mysticism ». We will examine in particular the type « mysticism », the reason for its existence and the relevance of it in the historical rereading of Christianity, which will help to clarify the specificity of Troeltsch's historical viewpoint. Next, we will consider the mystical moment in connection with the advent of modernity. Finally, we will seek to specify the sense in which the mystical moment should be re-interpreted, re-utilized and limited, in the broader context, particularly as it concerns the place and the function of religion in contemporary society
