Between openness and closure, protection and violence, abstraction and concreteness, separation and union, the border appears elusive. Yet it is constantly being used to describe not only contemporary geopolitical realities, but also intrapsychic processes and the relationship between languages. The metaphors that describe it, and the metaphorical uses it makes possible, are countless. By placing it in dialogue with the notion of lisière, we aim to penetrate its thickness and ambivalence, to envisage what is at stake in the intimate and social experiences of the in-between
