From the assumption that the language is an heterogeneous reality, this article is engaged in the study of newspapers at the beginning of the 20th century, as a rich corpus of Linguistics research. The main goal is to investigate the features of the journalistic genre, establishing parallels between these features and the linguistic reality of the period. Aiming to illustrate these objectives, we analyzed the varieties tu and voc. This comparative analysis is made in periodic of the black press and the press of Araraquara City
