The citizen's university in Marseilles Inhabitants from certain social housing neighbourhoods in Marseilles were invited to get informed and establish a dialogue with teachers and specialists on social issues. The symbolic investment in these meetings for all involved helped to create a kind of public space where they could explore the constraints and possibilities for collective action. The experience shows the personal involvement required for citizenship that goes beyond the usual subjection to institutions
