In his Voyage to the World ofCartesius, a satirical critique of Descartes published in 1690, Gabriel Daniel slyly begins by citing Descartes's apologists. Defenders like Mersenne, Daniel says, refute charges of atheism by claiming that we shall find nothing of a more Christian Temper, and that inspires us more ravishingly with the Love of God than Descartes Philosophy.
