T lHE opening of the North African front and the occupation of French Morocco and Algeria by Allied forces has changed the whole strategic picture east of the Atlantic. It has also introduced changes in the economic geography of the United Nations: a new territory, with new riches and new needs, has been added to the Allied whole. This territory seems to have an especially important part to play in the geography of the war: it is the site of the long-awaited second front, and it may well become, as Prime Minister Churchill has put it, the of the Allied offensive in Europe. The making ready of such a springboard is a vast economic problem, for modern armies require huge supplies
