This article investigates the spatial dimensions of imports and exports of automobiles and their parts for the United States. Topics include automobile transshipment in 1988, ports and trading partners, and the role of trade with Canada. Changes in trading patterns and the transportation industry have accelerated transcontinental minibridge traffic. Lorenz curves reveal the degree of spatial concentration in automobile trade in 1988, and Gini coefficients display a relative stability in automobile trading patterns between 1979 and 1988
