The accounts of the battle of Palaepharsalus by ancient authors, especially Julius Caesar, are examined in detail. Previous reconstructions of the battle are found to disagree in some respects with Caesar's description of the action, and the claim that the town of Palaepharsalus was at Palaiokastro is shown to be untenable. It is concluded that the battle must have been fought on the north bank of the Enipeus. A location for the battle is proposed near the modern town of Driskoli, the only ancient site on the north bank of the Enipeus which accords with literary references to the town of Palaepharsalus. Given this location for the battlefield, Caesar's description agrees with the topography in every detail
