This article is one of a series exploring ways in which analyses of the proportions of Greek sculptures, based on measurements, will contribute to our understanding of both art and civilization during the archaic period. A newly developed statistical methodology, z-score profile analysis, translates the proportions of a statue, derived from its measurements, into a graph, illuminating the distinctive pattern followed by the proportions of a particular statue. Comparisons of profiles have confirmed the observations of earlier studies of korai. In a broad and general way, it appears that archaic Greek sculpture evolved from the adaptation of a foreign canonic model toward the reliance on an idealized human model: that model was the male human figure for both male and female statues
