The synoptic accounts of Jesus' last night are based on a chronology which does not tally with historical facts. This may be due to an attempt made by the early Jerusalem community to re-read events in the light of Passover expectations of its day. If this hypothesis is accepted, certain features of the gospel accounts are seen in a strangely new light
