The Qumran sect and the Temple (General survey) The members of the Qumran sect referred to three Temples worthy of this name : Solomon's, which has disappeared ; the one they hoped to build when their cause was triumphant (it is considered in the « Temple Scroll ») ; the one which God will himself create at the end of time and to which all the elect, risen to priesthood, will have access. The community did not see itself as a spiritual Temple, it claimed only to work, by its penitence, the collective expiation for which mainstream religion looked to the Temple
