The accounts in Acts which narrate a night-time meal (Acts 16.25-34 ; 20.7-12 ; 27.13-44) benefit from being read as a related whole. The meal is represented as a place of life and communion, a communion to which each household is called to give birth, but which must spread the world over - just like the salvation of which communion is an expression and celebration. This salvation is itself rooted in the events of Easter, and through the vigil which celebrates Easter each of these nights is illuminated. Finally, the power of life at work at the heart of these nights of liberation, deliverance and salvation determines a new identity, one called profoundly to mark each individual in his own life, but also called to include all without distinction
