The article examines studies of the ethnic group Issyk-Kul Kalmyks (Sart Kalmaks) and analyzes divergent scholarly views concerning their origins. During a 2013 expedition, comprehensive research was conducted on the Sart Kalmaks using anthropometric research, genetic data, and linguistic compilation with name lists and recordings of ethnonyms and toponyms. The history of the Issyk-Kul Kalmyks, including their development compared to Kalmyks (Oirats) of Russia and China is explored. Based on anthropological research, trends in Issyk-Kul Kalmyk development as an ethnic group are examined
