While traveling in Germany in the early 1930s, Meyer Schiapirof caime across the name Siegfried Kracauer as the author of an article about Greta Garbo in the Frankfurier Zeiung. What struck Schapiro, he told mie, was Kracauer's unusual approach his use of a philosophical, phenomnenological vocabulary to talk sensitively about this beautiful woman and exploited filin star. He was also impressed by Kracauer's early sociological study Die Angeslellien (he Whilte-Collar Workers)
