This article explores the public role of the Hellenistic queen through the example of Apollonis of Pergamon, wife and mother of kings. By examining the relationship of the queen with the Ionian city of Teos, the article posits that while they had to act within the limits of accepted gender roles, Hellenistic queens had considerable agency in the realms of euergetism and diplomacy
