This essay seeks to understand some of the roots of malaise in contemporary universities, especially under the influence of neoliberalism. It is a descriptive reflective essay, in which scientific articles, institutional reports and theoretical analyses related to the topic were used. As well as analyzing some of the difficulties faced in everyday university life, strategies are presented that have been used in higher education institutions to strengthen practices that are more supportive and less individualistic and competitive
