IN A RECENT STUDY of the factors associated with absenteeism in a southcentral New York State industry, the writer made use of certain basic sociological assumptions and methodological techniques which are likely to be of interest to the professional sociologist. This paper is concerned with a brief analysis of the nature of the industrial abseentism problem, the rationale for the approach used, and the statistical methodology employed in arriving at the relative importance' of the causes2 of absenteeism.
