The biblical hermeneutics of Paul Ricœur has for a long time been characterized by a model of comprehension within which (structural) explanation was a strong exigiency. This model was due to the fact that his general hermenutics of texts had the Leitmotiv «to explain in order to understand ». Through reading the work of N. F rye (The Great Code), the philosopher moves to a more flexible, model of comprehension : to understand is now a joint act of the text and the reader. The effect of this movement is to bring Ricœur' s biblical hermeneutics in line with his philosophical hermeneutics
