I n looking toward the future, it makes sense that we examine international networks and their projected contexts for clues about the kind of preparation educational leaders will need and can acquire for the twenty-first century. International trends and development may offer scholars and leaders more important harbingers of educational futures than do technological trends and other more traditional indicators of change, in part because of the greater scope, complexity, synergism, and outreach of cross-continental influences. How can we, for example, understand the educational and leadership implications of such varying problems as energy, food, and human rights in either their technical or value dimensions without transcending our own national context? That understandings about such phenomena have important implications for leaders of schools and for those responsible for preparing future leaders would seem to be self evident
