Using an improvisatory, freestyle approach, Vivienne Dick has made five filmsGuerillere Talks (1978), She Had Her Gun All Ready (1978), Beauty Becomes the Beast (1979), Liberty's Booty (1980), and Visibility: Moderate (1981)which have attracted wide attention because of their distinctive look, their skillful casting of Lower East Side personalities, and their defiance of standard filmic categories and expectations. Though She Had Her Gun All Ready and Beauty Becomes the Beast are probably the best known of the films, I am more drawn to Dick's most recent work. This interview was recorded on May 30, 1981, in Dick's apartment on East 9th Street in New York City
