B. Markovsky et al. examinent de facon critique la theorie des phenomenes de pouvoir, dans le cadre des reseaux sociaux d'echange, developpee par K. Yamaguchi. Ils estiment que son modele presente des contradictions. Ils mettent en doute la validite des indicateurs utilises. Ils affirment que les analyses de Yamaguchi sont erronees en ce sens qu'elles ne parviennent pas a etre confirmees statistiquement. K. Yamaguchi replique a Markovsky et al.. Il s'efforce de montrer que ces derniers n'ont pas, dans leur critique, compris l'importance de la notion de substitution qui permet de mesurer l'importance des acteurs. Plus un individu est indispensable plus il possede de pouvoir. Il considere qu'il n'existe aucune variable qui puisse servir de comparaison entre son modele et le modele elabore par Markovsky et al.. A ce titre, il estime impossible que ceux-ci puissent infirmer statistiquement ses analyses
