This study proposes, in the ambit of the Portuguese Language activities teaching, a Bakhtinian perspective of reading as the interaction space between the author's voice established in the text and the student-reader voice. For the configuration of such a proposal, are retaken a few among the many existing theories of reading. It is a retrospective of the origin of the relationship between reading and school, trying to understand how this relationship occurred over time and seeking above all, find the conceptions of reading we were sedimenting and determining ways to conceive in Brazil, the Portuguese Language teaching as should move off of literary reading. After this, is introduced to the reading proposed as response, made effective by the mediator efficient acting.Discussions on the Bakhtinian concept of reading as verbal interaction are presented, as well as the relevance of the teacher as a mediator of this reading/dialogue in schools and appropriate formation for this work.In order to perform an analysis of the reality of working with literary texts in school spaces, are presented data from two research conducted with high school students in the Federal District (2005; 2010), which aimed to know, by the voice of these adolescents and young people, as they conceive and relate to literary reading.Research confirms the importance of the mediator teacher as a literacy literary agent.Through these "voices" it was noticed that the reading mediation does not occur as expected and comes to the conclusion that the teachers in their daily activities with literary reading, necessitate access to theories, historical assumptions, knowledge the nature of the literary text, as well as the strategies and practices of literary reading. After diagnosing this reality, it was presented the dialogical teaching of literary reading proposed, which is focused on student interaction with what they read, in other words, response to the author. We sought to present a practical proposal for teaching reading as a response to the author's work, suggesting some possible forms of effective participation of teachers as mediators between the authors established in the texts and the readers. With this, it is believed, be providing tools for the teacher effective the mission of bringing the student-reader to "answer", that is, to establish a genuine dialogue with the text, making it, effectively, literature reader
