Estudante de Pernambuco (TEP).The objective is to understand different artistic aspects and identify a historical arc of student theatre in Brazil. The hypothesis raised is that the Student Theater emerged as a result of an increase in social unrest in urban areas and the emergence of an organized student movement since the beginning of the Estado Novo in 1937, with the foundation of the União Nacional dos Estudantes (UNE) being an important milestone in this context. These student theater companies shared characteristics in common, such as a scene based on a type of popular classicism, an interest in reflecting on the connections between art and society, in addition to the search, in some cases, for a radical inversion of productive conditions, resulting in collective ways of working. The Teatro do Estudante do Brasil (TEB), created almost simultaneously with UNE, played a fundamental role as a radiating center for many other student groups which multiplied across various regions of Brazil, challenging the cultural exclusivity of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, and maintaining an articulated network nationwide. In addition to the Teatro do Estudante do Brasil (TEB), this research also focused on two other emblematic cases of Brazilian student theater in the 1940s and 1950s: the Grupo Universitário de Teatro (GUT), created by Décio de Almeida Prado and Lourival Gomes Machado in 1943, in São Paulo, in the wake of the founding of the Faculty of Philosophy at USP; and Teatro do Estudante de Pernambuco (TEP), founded in 1940, but which gained prominence when Hermilo Borba Filho took over the direction in 1945.The results indicate that student theater was not limited to the 1940s and 1950s, there was a long period of student theater experiences that lasted at least until the early 1970s
