In chipmusic, video game consoles and home computers of the 1980s begin to assume a new role of a musical instrument. In order to deepen the knowledge on the subject, this work proposes to examine how the technological apparatus influences the musical production of chipmusic. Our thoughts find support on authors like Marshall McLuhan, Flusser, Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht and Arlindo Machado, who, each in its own way, have in common a keen eye on the techniques and the material of the media in the process of setting cultural phenomena
