In this paper, we present several language policy concepts in order to discuss their importance and influence on the design of the main proposals of the documents that guide Brazilian school curriculum.The process of developing the proposals and the teaching proposals contained in these documents will be analyzed and discussed, with the aim of establishing a parallel with the reality of Brazilian school context in relation to English language teaching
