This research aims to analyze academic literature relating to soccer in the human sciences between the years of 1970 and 2016.This project consists of a mapping and analysis of masters' dissertations and doctoral theses defended in postgraduate programs of public universities of the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.The intention is to understand how the entry of this research in the academic environment occurred in a period where soccer was treated as the "opium-of-the-people" by some intellectuals and scholars of the human sciences.This research allows an analysis of the knowledge field created on football, presenting a panorama of the production of academic works
