In this text, I analyze the representations developed in the Brazilian documentary between the beginning of the 1960s and the mid-1980s that addressed the forms of thought, struggles and way of life of fractions of the proletariat in the country starting from four works: Viramundo (1965) by Geraldo Sarno, Arnaldo Jabor's A opinião pública (1968), Leon Hirszman's ABC da Greve (1979Greve ( /1990)), and Eduardo Coutinho's Cabra marcado para morrer (1984).Through a dialectical and materialistic approach to art, I argue that the working class was not only one of the fundamental objects of Brazilian documentarism of this period, but also a reference through which this genre developed new forms of expression of the social reality within Brazilian cinematography
