This dissertation aimed to employ gender studies applied to the musicology to investigate and enhance understanding of choral repertoire composed and arranged by women.Starting from an in-depth study of literature related to music and gender issues and using the performed repertoire of professional choirs from the southeastern capitals of Brazil as the subject of study, we aimed to raise inquiries about the presence of women composers and arrangers in the daily lives of singers, conductors, and consequently, the general public. To achieve this, we developed this research with a mixed methodology, which is divided into two chapters presented within this dissertation. The first chapter consists of an integrative review of Brazilian music periodicals from 2012 to 2022, focusing on classical music and gender. We analysed and synthesized the main themes, discussions, and theoretical frameworks of the 79 articles that met our inclusion criteria, in order to comprehend the development of the theme in Brazil.Among these, only three articles mentioned choral music. The second chapter presents the documentary analysis of concert programs from five professional choirs of the capitals of the Southeast region of Brazil -Coro da Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, Coral Paulistano, Coro Lírico Municipal de São Paulo, Coral Lírico de Minas Gerais e Coro do Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro -between 2015 and 2021.The analysis aimed to observe the number of women composers and arrangers featured in the choirs' performances during this period. As a result, we found that only 1.7% of the repertoire belonged to women composers and arrangers.Additionally, the results allowed us to identify the situations and opportunities where women's works were included. In the final considerations, by articulating the findings of both chapters, we were able to present opportunities and make suggestions to enhance the presence of women's works in the choral repertoire. These suggestions include implementing thematic programs that promote diversity, encouraging commissions and premieres of women's compositions and arrangements, and organizing events and other positive actions to promote gender equality. To achieve these goals, we emphasized the need for conductors, managers, and institutions to be committed to challenging gender discrimination and to supporting gender equality initiatives. This work was guided by authors and key concepts such as Joan Scott and her concept of gender as a resource for historical analysis, Pilar Ramos López's contributions to the field of music and feminism, and Marcia Citron's research on gender and the music canon
