Alexander Kluge, influente pensador marxista alemão, tem formação em Teoria do Direito, é ensaísta político e escritor de romances. Atualmente na Alemanha, é um dos principais diretores do chamado "Novo Cinema Alemão"; aluno e amigo de Theodor Adorno, foi apresentado a Fritz Lang do qual, em 1958, com a idade de 26 anos, tornou-se seu assistente de direção no filme O tigre de Bengala. Seu crescente envolvimento com a atividade cinematográfica permitiu que fosse eleito, em 1962, diretor do Institut für Filmgestaltung em Ulm
