In this study, we investigated the combinatorial model of the Padovan sequence, exploring the concept of tiles and their associations with this sequence. The objective of this work was to investigate the effectiveness of a teaching approach based on the combinatorial model of the Padovan sequence, using tiles associated with this sequence, to facilitate the teaching and learning process of mathematics students in an initial teacher education course. The study was grounded in the Didactic Engineering research methodology, articulated with the Theory of Didactic Situations, aiming to anticipate possible behaviors of students facing the didactic situation built around the theme, as well as to analyze this situation in the classroom context. During the experimentation, pieces composing the Padovan tiles were used to facilitate the teaching and learning process of students. Its implementation took place in an initial teacher education course in mathematics, considering the need for prior knowledge in the area to solve it. Finally, the results obtained were thoroughly analyzed and internally validated, based on the assumptions of Didactic Engineering and the Theory of Didactic Situations, indicating that the elaborated situation promoted effective teaching on the combinatorial model of the Padovan sequence, providing students with an active role in the construction of their knowledge and broadening the discussion and interest in the topic
