El concepto de innovaciones democráticas ha ido ganando relevancia en la última década. En general, se refiere a un interés renovado por involucrar a la ciudadanía en los asuntos públicos, buscando incluirles en el proceso de toma de decisiones políticas. Este trabajo tiene un doble objetivo. Por un lado, busca ahondar en el desarrollo y evolución del concepto en la literatura especializada, mostrando cuáles son sus antecedentes teóricos, definiciones y conceptos con los que se relaciona. Por otro, este análisis se complementa con un estudio de tendencias generales en una de las bases de datos que recoge mayor número de experiencias innovadoras
