The author describes changes in global migration patterns. My focus will be on international migration within and from the South--in what are often called the less developed areas or the periphery of the world economy. I will argue that migration flows have been transformed in two ways by globalization. First the flows are much greater than before because globalization has increased the number of conditions prompting migration and the number of geographical areas subject to those conditions....Second globalization has led to modifications in the character of migration flows.
