L’article té com a objecte sintetitzar la tasca investigadora que el demògraf i economista nord-eamericà Richard A. Easterlin desenvolupa al llarg de la seva obra. La rellevància de la contribució de l’autor a la comprensió de les decisions en matèria de fecunditat ha estat i és internacionalment reconeguda, però també font de vives polèmiques. Aquí s’analitzen les seves principals tesis i els més destacats treballs de validació d’aquestes que han anat apareixent i que han contribuït amb un dens debat a l’aprofundiment del tema.
