En les pròximes dècades, les ciutats de tot el món experimentaran els impactes de l'augment de la temperatura global. No obstant això, a diferència de la mitigació, l'adaptació de les ciutats del nostre entorn roman com una qüestió secundària. Aquest article revisa la literatura sobre adaptació al canvi climàtic en les poblacions amb l'objectiu de comprendre els reptes i les dimensions implicades en l'adaptació de les ciutats. Identifiquem sis grans reptes en l'adaptació de les ciutats. Caracteritzem les diferents estratègies d'adaptació existents i il·lustrem aquestes intervencions a partir de casos concrets documentats en diferents ciutats. Finalment, discutim la necessitat d'avaluar i investigar de manera sistemàtica la capacitat d'adaptació de les poblacions del nostre entorn al canvi climàtic.
